These are times of change. The digital age. We are more connected than ever, and strive to be even more so. We need our data on other platforms than the one
it was made for originally. Our mails on cell, our movies on the cloud, our
documents on a friend’s computer. The world is interlinking more and more as it
gets more and more digitized, and we can either keep abreast of it or be lost in the pace.
The ongoing saga of digitization continued when Google launched the
Android OS, and Apple launched iOS. With such launches came millions of apps, and became an extensive part of everyday life. But then, as ever, the more we use them, the more we get dependent on the. One needs them on other platforms as well, for the data to be secure and readily accessible.
This is
where Bluestacks comes in handy. A silicon valley venture dedicated to helping bring the volley of apps closer to you on your PC/Mac.
This tutorial is about how to install Whatsapp messenger on
your desktop/laptop. Whatsapp is a very popular Android/IOS/Blackberry/Windows OS application (app) used to send chats, photos, video, songs etc using your data
connection (over Wifi, or through your network provider). With over 10 billion
messages being sent over Whatsapp daily, and more number of active users than Twitter, it recently toppled the age old SMS for sending most number of messages per day.
There have been times when I lost Whatsapp connectivity on
my cell. Like when my phone was not working, I didn’t have enough balance, or during
other emergencies. Especially in developing countries, where many people have simply
not switched to smart-phones yet, accessing Whatsapp is a big issue. But even if they don’t have smartphones, they still want to be able to use Whatsapp, to get messages, to stay in touch, to contact friends, to see what they have been
missing. These are the times when Whatsapp on PC/Mac can come in handy.
So, here’s how you can get it!
A word of caution, Whatsapp can only be
registered on one device at a time with one phone number (Shame. Would have been handy
to read and reply Whatsapp messages from both cell as well as computer, as
and when comfortable. But then, if you’re changing numbers and need to
re-register with a new one, this can help you keep track of who still messaging you on the old
phone number).
- First of all, download Bluestacks and install it on your computer
.
- Find the search bar and search Whatsapp
- Download Whatsapp Messenger
- Open the Whatsapp hence installed, and agree to the terms and conditions
- Choose your phone number. Whatsapp will ask for verification.
Here is the real trick! Whatsapp will send a
verification SMS on the number, but obviously you are on PC/Mac and hence it
wont be able to verify. You simply need to wait for the full 5 minutes
countdown.
After the countdown, it will give an
alternative method of verification. Press the call me button, and you get a
call on the phone number which you are trying to register. Pick up the
automated call, and it’ll play a code number in sequential loop. Simply add
that number as the verification code.
- And You’re Done!
Enjoy the Whatsapp experience!
